Fruit of the Holy Spirit

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Colossians 3:12

Love

Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs.Proverbs 10:12

A bowl of vegetables with someone you love is better than steak with someone you hate.Proverbs 15:17

Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends.Proverbs 17:9

Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame.Song of Solomon 8:6

Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.Matthew 22:37–39

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.1 Corinthians 13:1-3

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails …

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.Ephesians 5:25

However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husbandEphesians 5:33

And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Colossians 3:14

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.1 Peter 4:8

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.

1 John 3:18
Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.1 John 3:16

Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1 John 4:8

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love  1 John 4:18

Joy

“This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24

“Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again – rejoice!” Philippians 4:4

“For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” Romans 14:17

“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.” Proverbs 17:22

“A glad heart makes a happy face; a broken heart crushes the spirit.” Proverbs 15:13

“I will delight in your decrees and not forget your word.” Psalm 119:16

“Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth!” Psalm 100:1

“….the joy of the Lord is your strength!'” Nehemiah 8:10

“Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.” Romans 12:12

“But don’t rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven.” Luke 10:20

“What blessings await you when people hate you and exclude you and mock you and curse you as evil because you follow the Son of Man. When that happens, be happy! Yes, leap for joy! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, their ancestors treated the ancient prophets that same way.” Luke 6:22-23

Peace

Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. Psalm 34:14

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.Colossians 3:15

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.Philippians 4:7

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Romans 12:18

Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Hebrews 12:14

Patience

A hot-tempered man stirs up dissension, but a patient man calms a quarrel. Proverbs 15:18

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Romans 12:12

Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Colossians 3:12-13

And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone1 Thessalonians 5:14

By your steadfastness and patient endurance you shall win the true life of your souls.Luke 21: 19

For you have need of steadfast patience and endurance, so that you may perform and fully accomplish the will of God, and thus receive and carry away what is promised. Hebrews 10: 36

Therefore then, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance and that sin which so readily clings to and entangles us, and let us run with patient endurance and steady and active persistence the appointed course of the race that is set before us.Hebrews 12: 1

And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;2 Peter 1:6

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.Ephesians 4:2

Kindness

“An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up.” Proverbs 12:25

“He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward him for what he has done.” Proverbs 19:17

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”Epehsians 4:32

We prove ourselves by our purity, our understanding, our patience, our kindness, by the Holy Spirit within us, and by our sincere love.2 Corinthians 6:6

 Goodness

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 7:12

Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.3 John 1:11

Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.Romans 11:22

(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) Ephesians 5:9

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 1 Cor 10:31

Faithfulness

“A faithful man will be richly blessed, but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished.”  Proverbs 28: 20

“Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.”         I Corinthians 4: 2

Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.Revelation 2:11

Gentleness

“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” Proverbs 15:1

“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” Ephesians 4:2

“Through patience a ruler can be persuaded, and a gentle tongue can break a bone.” Proverbs 25:15

“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” Ephesians 4:2

“Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.” Philippians 4:5

“But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.” 1 Timothy 6:11
“But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…”1 Peter 3:15

Self Control

Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.1 Peter 1:13

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.2 Peter 1:6-8

“Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control.” Proverbs 25:28

“Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city.” Proverbs 16:32

“Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.” 1 Peter 1:13

“So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled.” 1 Thessalonians 5:6

“But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.” 1 Thessalonians 5:8

“But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.” 2 Timothy 4:5

“Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags.” Proverbs 23:20-21

“Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.” Colossians 3:5-8

” But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.” 1 Corinthians 7:9

“that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable,” 1 Thessalonians 4:4

Let every person be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger. For human anger does not accomplish God’s righteousness. . .James 1:19-20
