Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord – 13th May 2013

Today, we pray for our mothers

Lord Jesus, on this day we bring to You our mothers – those precious women who carried us in their wombs, nurtured us, prayed for us, corrected us and loved us, even while punishing us. We pray that we will always love and honour our mums. We believe that a mother’s tears and prayers are never wasted – honour their cries for their children, Lord. Help those of us who are mums to become more like Mary and Anne. A special prayer for the motherless – that all the women saints in heaven will comfort them today. Amen.

Today, we pray for other living creatures

Lord Jesus, on this day we pray for animals, birds and other living creatures that You created to give us pleasure. We pray that these are protected and not abused. Forgive us Lord for the way we have hurt the living things around the world. A special prayer for our pets, who bring us great joy. May us human beings learn to respect and love life – any creature that You created. Amen.
