YOUR BIBLICAL MISSION STATEMENT

“And you, O child, shall be called prophet of the Most High; for you shall go before the Lord to prepare straight paths for Him, giving His people a knowledge of salvation in freedom from their sins.” –Luke 1:76-77

Do you have a Scripture verse which is a mission statement for your life? The above verse, Luke 1:76-77, serves as an apt mission statement for St. John the Baptizer’s life, along with Isaiah 40:3, which reads “A voice cries out: In the desert prepare the way of the Lord! Make straight in the wasteland a highway for our God!” Luke 1:76-77 is also the Scriptural mission statement for my own life.

Fr. Al Lauer, founder and longtime author of One Bread, One Body, believed that each person has a Biblical verse as a mission statement from God. He considered the following verse to be the Biblical mission statement for his life: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me; therefore He has anointed Me. He has sent Me to bring glad tidings to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives, recovery of sight to the blind and release to prisoners, to announce a year of favor from the Lord” (Lk 4:18-19; see also Is 61:1-2).

From the foot of the manger in which the Infant Jesus lies, the reason for your life becomes ever clearer. With King David, we all are called to build God a house, and work so that His house may be full (see Lk 14:23). Stand in the presence of the Word-made-flesh, God Incarnate. Ask Him to give you a Christmas present by revealing and confirming for you the Biblical mission statement for your life.

PRAYER: Father, give me the grace to comprehend and live out the mission You have chosen for me. I give You my life.

PROMISE: “I will give you rest from all your enemies.” –2 Sm 7:11

PRAISE: Martina’s crippling arthritis could have led to bitterness. She surrendered her will to Jesus and learned to totally depend on the Lord for endurance and strength.
